This house was used primarily to film Emily as a young girl living with her older sisters. The humble abode that Emily’s father built, was a makeshift home constructed by the crew. The interior scenes were shot using natural light.

Leeds, West Yorkshire

The city of Leeds, in the valley of River Aire turned out to be the major filming spot for portraying the busy town of the 1800’s. The filming of scenes such as the one at Emily’s home was done in Leeds. The filming set was constructed from scratch, but it was later demolished.

Otley was another location that was used for filming. It is a bustling market town. Because of the large crowd, this location was very difficult to film. To avoid disturbance, the director finally decided to film most scenes at the beginning of the morning.
