Mrs. Lillie Minter (Lil, Lil Baby, Lillie Mae) was born on the 10th of September 1941 in the home of Mr. Cranford Lewis “Buddy” Brooks and Mrs. Ruth (Peterson) Brooks in Meigs, Georgia.

Lillie was educated within her home in the Thomas County School District, beginning with Meigs at the Lincoln Brown School in Meigs and then later going to Magnolia High School in Thomasville.

At a young age, Lillie Minter accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior through Gladys Chapel A.M.E. where she was a faithful member.

In the latter part of the 70’s, her family moved in the late 70’s to Albany, Georgia, where over the past 10 years she has been a Deaconess and a volunteer at her home church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Her passion and love for children led her to take on a variety of initiatives in the service of children and communities .

Mrs. Minter’s father died at the age of 10 years old. It was in these young years that she developed her abilities to master the art of “mothering”. She was able to raise, nurture and guide the six children she had.

Then she would take on the same responsibility for five more siblings after her mother got married.

As a mentor for the young women living in her town, Lillie gave advice to a new generation, instilling them to believe in their own abilities. She promoted education, faith and determination to achieve the goals of life.

Lillie Minter was in every way an ancestor, mother and comforter, who was never without an abundance of affection. She was a daughter of God and was a wife, mother of the family, grandmother, sibling aunt, confidant and a shining source of light to those fortunate enough to get to know her. She lived a full and happy life. lived, and she is deeply missed.

Mrs. Minter was preceded in death by her son Stillman Demetrius Brooks and her parents Buddy as well as Ruth Brooks and stepfather, Robert Smith; brother, Robert Smith, Jr. Stepbrother, James Smith; and nephew, Reginald Brooks.

Her husband, who has been with her for nearly fifty years Leonard Minter, Sr. and two daughters: Daisy (Wendell) Quick and Rhea Kenyon Three sons, Leonard (Greta) Minter, Jr., Michael (Akira) Minter and Nicholas Minter.

The siblings include Geraldine Mitchell Vera Mae Jackson, Lewis (Laverne) Brooks, Marion Cochran, Annie Ruth (Curtis) Conage, Karen (Larry) Dorn Glenda Brooks, Glenn Brooks, Regina (Riley) McClendon and Helen (Vincent) Berryhill.
