Who is Antonio Dawson in Chicago PD
Detective Antonio Dawson, a former second in-command of CPD Intelligence Unit, is now Detective. Dawson was appointed by Hank Voight directly and served as his devil’s advocate as well as the unit’s de facto leader when Voight died.
Dawson was the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office’s main investigator between Seasons 4 & 5. He then returned to Intelligence, finding the tedious and prolonged investigations tiring. In Season 6, Antonio developed a drug habit and relapsed in his last episode. He decided to resign off-screen and was taken to rehab.

Seda and the producers felt Dawson had reached an artistic dead end, and so Dawson left. Deadline reports that Dawson was removed from the show because he was considered too “played out”. Fans found this unusual considering that the Chicago Police Department writers had previously given the character a storyline about his addiction to painkillers in season 6. The subplot was extended to a conclusion in order to account for Seda’s absence. Many major story elements were also played out offscreen.
In Season 7, Voight (Jason Beghe), revealed that Dawson was taken to a rehabilitation facility by Voight. As shown in “Familia,” Dawson traveled to Puerto Rico to be near his family. CinemaBlend was informed by Rick Eid, the showrunner, that Seda is always welcome to make a cameo in the future.“I think the door’s always open for someone like Jon”, He said. “Everybody here loves him, thinks he’s a great actor.”

Antonio has also been injured, including being nearly killed by a bullet in season 1. In Season 6, Chicago P.D., Antonio develops an addiction to oxycodone while healing from a shoulder injury. Seda was forced to leave the show after Season 6. Season 7 revealed that Antonio was in treatment to get clean, and then quit and moved to Puerto Rico to be closer to his family.
