Because of the setting and certain aspects of the narrative, Peacock’s ‘The Resort’ can’t escape the comparison with ‘The White Lotus,’ even though the two shows can’t be more different. If ‘The White Lotus’ is a brutal satire on 21st-century life, ‘The Resort’ is actually a breezy ride through magic realism. There are two distinct timelines for the latter. In 2022, Noah (William Jackson Harper) and Emma (Cristin Milioti) arrive in Yucatán, Mexico, to celebrate Their 10th anniversary. Emma discovers a phone lying in the jungle, and it is Sam Knowlston (Skyler Gisondo), an older man who was missing along with Violet Thompson (15 years ago). The narrative shifts back and forth between the two timelines as both groups try to find the mysterious pasaje, mentioned in the book ‘La Desilusión Del Tiempo’ by Illán Iberra.
In the finale of season 7, the journey comes to an end for both Noah and Emma in 2007, and 2022. They find the pasaje which leads them to what they have been seeking all along. Here is everything you need to know about the ending of ‘The Resort.’ SPOILERS AHEAD.
Episode 8 of The Resort: Recap
The episode begins after Violet wakes up due to Sam’s rigorous snoring. She is somewhat annoyed and writes a note. In 2022, Noah, Emma, Baltasar (Luis Gerardo Méndez), and Murray (Nick Offerman) venture into the tunnel as well. While trying to cross a body of water, they find a long piece of rope. They attach it to a convenient contraption and are able to pull in the raft. They climb on the raft and finally reach a clearing. Balthasar is impressed by the sight, but Emma is disappointed because they were expecting something more. Baltasar and Emma discover two secret tunnels. The group split, Emma going down the tunnel with Noah and Balthasar and Murray entering the second.
Baltasar, Emma, and others are forced to confront the past and their pain through these tunnels. This seems like a specially designed trial for them. Violet, in 2007, enters the tunnels by herself and becomes trapped as the water rises from the hurricane. Sam then finds Violet and asks her why her father left her. Violet defends herself by saying that she left him a note. The note turned out to be a piece of wet paper. Violet and Sam attempt to flee as the water rises rapidly. But they are stuck and nearly drown.
The Resort Finale: Can Emma and Violet Find Pasaje
At the start of the series, when ‘The Resort’ still seems like a murder mystery, the main question that the narrative seeks to answer involves the identity of Sam and Violet’s killer. However, as the series progresses, it becomes increasingly clear that they weren’t murdered. We learn about Violet’s interest in pasaje and how she is searching for it so she can see her mother again, whom she lost to cancer. When Emma learns what that place can give her, she too becomes obsessed with it, She and Noah lost a child, and she didn’t even get to meet her. It was the greatest source of her pain.
Both Emma and Violet discover what they want at the end of their journey. Emma finds Violet and Sam floating in a mysterious pool, conscious but not aware. What is more astonishing is that they haven’t aged a single day in 15 years. They seem to think that only a few minutes have elapsed since she woke them up. Emma is then reunited with her dad. Sam tries calling his parents, but they think that someone is pranking him.
It is evident that the pool has supernatural properties. It can be used to help people transcend time and reconnect with loved ones. For Emma, it’s her daughter; for Violet. it’s her mother. But the pasaje isn’t necessarily the pool but the journey they undertake. However, Emma can also view the underground tunnel that got her stuck as a physical representation for the pasaje. Violet and Emma learn the importance of what they have through this journey. Noah and Emma’s relationship improves because of this journey, and the latter actively decides not to get into the water — no matter how much she wants to — because she doesn’t intend to lose 15 years of her life.
Violet is not so fortunate. While she may not have lost 15 years, Murray has, as have Sam’s parents. Luna points out that even though it looks like everyone is happy at the end, they will soon be separated by the fact that they have lost so much time together.
Does Baltasar Gets Closure?
Emma travels through a tunnel that will change her life. Baltasar, however, is facing his own difficulties in the second tunnel. He encounters a yellow snake which is the symbol for his family. Baltasar’s own experience up to this point has prepared him well for the confrontation. Baltasar, despite the serpent coiling around him and ready to strike again, is now unafraid of confronting his past and the legacy that his family has left. He emerges triumphant. He tells Luna later that he is moving to a new shore. Baltasar finally feels at peace with his life.
Was Alex the One Who Found Pasaje?
Alex Sinclair (Ben Sinclair), is the eccentric owner and operator of Oceana Vista Resort. This is where Violet and Sam stayed in 2007. It was destroyed by the hurricane. Alex appears to be suffering from some kind of amnesia. He claims his memory is leaking by putting his finger in the ear. In the season finale, Sam, who doesn’t remember anything he experienced in the pool, sticks his finger in his ear. Baltasar is there with Alex, and has seen him do it many times. He realizes that Alex created the pasaje, and the pool, all those years ago. Alex is perhaps indeed right when he claims to Violet and Sam that Alejandro, the main character of ‘La Desilusión Del Tiempo,’ is indeed based on him. Iberra tells Violet and Sam that he brought his friend to pasaje. It was probably Alex.
