In a flashback, Suleyman Pavlovich is tortured by Hamzad’s camp. Belour/Young Abbey intervenes as Johnny/Young Dan is about to leave the scene. She asks him if he trusts her. Later, she will reveal secret intelligence she gathered while spying on Russians. Belour has discovered a mine containing copper, lithium, and uranium that will change Afghanistan’s economy for the better. Belour doesn’t want to tell Hamzad about the discovery, as it could cause him further corruption.

Zoe is present when Dan tells Zoe all about the mine and how it made Dan and Zoe wealthy after they fled Hamzad. Emily refuses to pick between her fathers and tries convincing Harper that she has always been loyal. Agent Waters is contacted by Morgan Bote at the CIA Headquarters. Bote informs Waters that he is the one who put Emily Chase under Harold Harper’s care after Dan Chase requested the same. Bote reveals that Harper and Dan were his mentors, but he needs to keep them in line. Therefore, he is assembling a small team to “hurt” his “sons.” Julian Carson then joins Waters as they prepare to hunt down Harper and Dan.

Harper and Angela arrive to Tunis, the last stop Young Dan and Young Abbey Chase made before fleeing the USA. Hamzad demands Harper to find the flight records for the two from 1987. Although Harper hands over the flight records to Hamzad’s lawyer, Nina Kruger, she informs the FBI Assistant Director that his treasons against the US government will be leaked to the world by the day’s end. Harper is forced to work with Dan in order to save his reputation.

The Old Man Episode 5: Where is Dan Headed?

In the episode’s final act, Dan and Zoe pose as Henry and Marcia Dixon arrive at Zachery’s house. The broker refused to process Dan’s urgent investment request that was meant to garner the attention of potential ally Suleyman Pavlovich. However, Dan intends on getting the investment process and uses Zoe’s help to achieve his goal. The episode shows Zoe slowly accepting Marcia Dixon’s persona and shedding her timid personality. Initially, she seems polite during her conversation to Zachery. However, she completes her transformation into Marcia Dixon, the ally of a super spy, by exploiting Zachery’s weakness. Dan receives his investment and the deal is done.

Dan and Zoe then head to the airport, where they will depart for Morocco after their investment has been secured. Dan knows Emily is in danger, as she is about meeting Faraz Hamzad from Morocco. Dan decides to save his daughter. Zoe predicts that Dan will not be able to return from the trip. Dan is willing and able to sacrifice his life for Zoe, Emily, and Dave. Dan also leaves his beloved dogs Dave, Carol, and Zoe at pet care, with Zoe only authorized to retrieve them. Thus, Dan’s plan is clear! He is going on a one way trip to Morocco to end Hamzad’s conflict. In the final moments of the conversation, Zoe informs Dan that she still sees him with the same tender tone that Abbey used to. The future may not be so dire for the ex-CIA agent.
