How Did Teylyn McAlpin Die?

Teylyn “Tey” McAlpin was an Asheville High student soon to be a graduate, staying in Asheville, North Carolina. Javelin Duncan, his mother, recalls her son’s good character as a brother and uncle. The 17-year-old was outgoing and athletic. He was also the single father of a 1-year-old daughter. It was therefore shocking that Tey, a young boy, was the victim of gun violence in November 2020.

Asheville Police Department responded to a shooting at Northern Asheville on November 28, 2020 around 8:30am. Officers arrived on the scene at 90 Gay Street near Montford baseball fields and Tempie-Avery Montford Centre to find a teen with multiple gunshot wounds. As they waited for the arrival paramedics, responding officers administered lifesaving measures to the victim. The wounded person was then taken to Mission Hospital.

The victim died from his injuries after the medical staff failed to save him. Police identified the body as Tey, and informed his family. The police are yet to reveal further details about the incident that led to Tey’s death in the hands of unknown perpetrators.

Who Killed Teylyn MCAlpin?

Javelin broke down later to reveal that she was trying reach her son Tey at exactly the moment of the unfortunate incident. She said, “At 8:30 I was calling Tey, seeing where he was at and he was getting killed at that exact same time I was calling him.” The investigators had a few promising leads that led them to believe that two assailants were involved in the incident.

A spokesperson for APD stated on December 4, 2020 that investigators had identified Dionate Whison, an Asheville teen, and Dionate Whitson as the assailants. They were then charged with the first-degree killing of Tey. As the pressure from Tey’s community, as well as national coverage of the incident, mounted, APD declared that they had arrested the unnamed 16-year-old charged with homicide on December 8, 2020. The investigators were collaborating with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety – Juvenile Justice Division to bring the alleged killer into custody.

Police did not reveal any additional information because of the juvenile status. Dionate, however, remains unknown. APD needs the public’s help to find the suspect assailant. They ask them to notify the police as soon they see him. Dionate was also warned by the spokesperson that he should be treated as dangerous and armed.

As per the statement, “He is charged with first-degree murder and has been known to be in possession of a weapon.” The U.S. Marshals-led Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force took charge of the case in December 2020. Anyone who can help them in locating Diontae Whitson, also known as Dionate, is eligible for a $10,000 reward.

Where is Dionate Whitson Now?

He is believed to be a member of the violent street gang Sex, Money, Murder. According to police sources, Dionate has been taken under the production of the gang and is helping him evade law enforcement agencies. The police further state that he could be residing among the homeless populations of Asheville, Greensboro, Raleigh, or Winston Salem, bouncing in between the cities, with the help of gang members spread across those areas.

According to police sources, a female person is organizing for Dionate. She is also the financial accounting of the gang. According to police sources, Diontae is receiving money from her on orders of the gang members. Police are still not revealing any information about the case because of the absconding attacker. The police have issued a lookout notice for Diontae – he is “described as a black male with brown eyes and black hair. He stands 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs approximately 150 pounds.”
